OUR TSA CHAPTER

OUR TSA CHAPTER

Bordentown Regional High School TSA includes many committed students, who are willing to expand their knowledge of technology. This commitment is seen through our fellow TSA members past experiences. These TSA members have appeared in the local Bordentown newspaper. The members placed 2nd place in their first ever competition.

PROJECTS

THE ROBODOC

The creation of the RoboDoc was done by the SBSR Robotics company.

The SBSR company, is a company that notices people's problems and finds a way to solve these problems. This time around the company noticed that in many public areas, immediate medical response is a difficult task. To solve this problem the company created an artificially intelligent robot. A robot intelligent enough to bandage a person in an efficient manner.

USES

USES

The RoboDoc has a very important use of emergency bandaging. Bandaging deep wounds is something that occurs very often. In 2013 80% of wounds that occurred required a product that allowed the wound to close. In most cases a person does not know the correct way to properly dress a wound or they do not have the abilities to do it by themselves. The RoboDoc has the abilities to properly bandage the wound allowing the patient to receive maximum comfort.

BENEFITS

  1. The robot can be used for emergency bandaging when the human hand is not available.
  2. It can be used in emergency situations in school, the workplace, and other public areas.
  3. Easy to use and handle

TECHNOLOGIES

Deep Learning technology involves ANN otherwise known as, Artificial Neural Networks. This deep learning technology allows the robot to change its actions according to the specific input the robot receives. The robot, RoboDoc, uses its ANN to change the way it bandages the deepness and severity of an injury. The robot will be able to use its neural networks to change how much of the bandage is used to cover the injury. The robot will even be able to figure out the tightness of the bandage with the help of ANN.

The technology behind the movement of the bandage wrapping is due to the ANN and touch sensors working together. When the sensors sense the wound or blood, the ANN comes to play and makes the robot think how the wound should be bandaged. To bandage the wound the robots needs to move in a centripetal motion around the wound, and the ANN acts as an input, telling the robot to move its specific tool in a circular motion.

The touch sensor technology allows the RoboDoc sense when something is in contact with it. This touch sensor technology can be seen in the latest smartphones. When the human finger is in contact with a smartphone screen it acts as an input, which in return creates an output of the screen moving digitally. The touch sensor technology will be used in the RoboDoc in a very similar manner. When the robot is able to sense human skin that is deeply wounded or human blood coming out of a human then it will produce the output of bandaging. Then the deep learning technology starts to understand how much of needs to be used and how tight it needs to be.

GelSight is another technology that is found in RoboDoc. GelSight allows the robot to sense the hardness of the arm which will determine how tight the robot has to wrap or apply the bandage. GelSight also allows the robot to manipulate small objects.

Another sensor that works similarly as the touch sensors are the hearing sensors. When the RoboDoc hears the words "RoboDoc Bandage" it immediately starts to take the action of bandaging the wound with the help of the above-stated technologies.

COSTS

These technologies have distinct prices that are widely acknowledged. For this reason, the robot is priced at  $1,000.

SAFETY / LIABILITIES

The RoboDoc would comply with the OSHA Guidelines for Robotics Safety. Although the purpose of the RoboDoc is to assist the injured, issues like in most prototypes in technology can emerge. The RoboDoc is able to wrap and splint the injured area depending on the location of the injury, how critical the damage is, and if there is an object within the wound. By using sensory technology and computerized knowledge of types of basic injuries. In most cases, safety will not be an issue with the RoboDoc. The RoboDoc is only used to stabilize the injury to provide easier and safer transportation to the injured and does not replace an immediate hospital visit.
